- Toronto Mayor John Tory spoke out in favour of implementing a toll system on the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway leading in and out of the city. His proposal suggested a $2 fee for drivers who use the popular highways with annual funds being put towards road and transit initiatives. Via the Globe & Mail.
- Ontario will be the first province to open a pilot project for self-driving cars. The University of Waterloo’s Centre for Automotive Research will be testing a Lincoln MKZ, QNX (a subsidiary of Blackberry) will test a 2017 Lincoln model, and Erwin Hymer Group will test a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van as part of the 10-year project. - Auditor General Michael Ferguson examined Transport Canada’s records and found that the agency is operating with an out-of-date framework and identifying safety defects later than they should. He presented his findings to Parliament and concluded that the organization is relying too much on its U.S. neighbours to identify issues first. Via Canadian Underwriter.
- A recent report by CIBC found that the quality of jobs in Canada is dropping. While the number of jobs increases, the wage gap between middle and high income jobs is not closing. Via CBC News.
- Tax season is around the corner and Canadians may want to be extra careful when filing this year. A new report by the Auditor General found that the Canadian Revenue Agency can take months or even years to adjust any mistakes made on income tax filings, which may result in high interest charges for Canadians.
