Carsharing calls for coverage that’s not typically included in your personal auto policy – fortunately, Northbridge Insurance can help. We provide commercial insurance coverage for owners who rent their vehicles to other drivers through the Eligo carsharing program. From the moment the renter picks up your vehicle to the moment they return your vehicle, you’re protected. Our carsharing insurance applies to all Eligo vehicle owners and authorized drivers in Ontario.

When you register with Eligo, you decide your pricing and availability, and you’re in charge of who rents your car. Once you’ve sorted out the details and the rental period is underway, your specialized Northbridge insurance policy activates.
Your personal auto policy does not provide coverage while your vehicle is rented.

How to get covered
All Eligo vehicle owners and authorized drivers are automatically covered by Northbridge Insurance’s commercial policy without having to contact Northbridge Insurance. However, all owners must first ensure their personal auto policy allows for their vehicle to be used for carsharing. Please inform your personal auto insurance broker of your carsharing activities to ensure you can be covered by Northbridge Insurance’s commercial policy.

Eligo FAQ
Northbridge Insurance’s coverage is available at no cost to all Eligo drivers in Ontario. It provides the following coverage during the period you are delivering your vehicle to the renter, to the moment they return your vehicle:
- Third Party Liability with $2,000,000 limit
- Standard accident benefits
- Comprehensive and collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible
- Coverage of up to $1,500 for transportation replacement while your carsharing vehicle is being repaired due to an insured loss
- No depreciation deduction on new vehicles (Does not apply to tires, batteries, and betterments. Loss or damage must take place within 30 months from the original delivery date of the vehicle or before the first renewal following that date, whichever is later.)
This coverage is completely separate from and is not a replacement for your personal auto policy. It doesn’t provide any optional coverage other than what’s specified above.

Northbridge Insurance has a privacy policy that details how it collects, uses, and discloses personal information. You can find the policy here. You can direct any questions about the Northbridge Insurance privacy policy to its Privacy Officer at the contact address indicated in the privacy policy.
